Most people don’t realise the importance of taking special care of wood furniture to ensure it lasts and retains its lustre. Two products stocked by the Banyan Tree are an English wax called Myland and that hard to find, Linseed oil. Used in the correct way, these products can help restore dry wood and keep your furniture in tip top condition.
Some tips to keep your furniture looking good:
Always apply the wax with a cloth and polish using a circular motion going against the wood grain.
Remember to leave the wax for a few minutes to sink into the wood.
When polishing with wax, remember to use a soft cloth and buff in the direction of the wood grain.
Try using stained wax in a similar colour to minimise scratches and other unwanted marks.
Don’t forget to wax your wooden furniture every 2-3 weeks to keep it in superior condition.
Try putting plants near wood furniture to counteract the drying effects of air-conditioners ( plants release moisture into the air as they grow).
Use linseed oil on especially dry pieces several times before waxing (excellent for strengthening and remoisturising old wood, and also enhances both colour and wood grain).
