In Hong Kong, living space is so cramped that we have to 'create' space for storage.
Here are some tips which can help you maximise your storage space.
Here are some tips for 'creating storage space' at home.

 |
1. Living Room
* A sofa with castors and adjustable shelving allow you to change the room layout regularly
and be more flexible in meeting growing needs.
* Use shelving at ceiling level to save space on floors and walls.
* So-called 'dead' space such as corners are ideal places for wall-mounted shelves for
displaying photos and small items. Some free standing storage units with corner shelves are also a good choice.
* Free standing cabinets or chests will focus your eyes on the lower part of the room;
this is a good idea if you have a low ceiling. The top surface provides a useful area for lights and collections.

* Flip-down tabletops and stackable or folding chairs can be used for working and reading, and cleared away tidily
when not in use.
* Or you can hang the chairs onto the wall to save floor space.
* Two mattresses with castors can serve as sofas by day and double bed by night. |
* Sofabeds are ideal for overnight guests.
* Try some multi-function items like the HATTEN coffee table. It can hold snacks on the top and remote controls
inside.
* Ceiling to floor cabinets maximise storage space. By painting the shelves the same collour as the wall, the room
will appear more spacious.

2. Bedroom
* Simple furnishings are ideal for smaller rooms, as they can help to create an impression of space. Bedside tables,
blanket chests and under the bed are precious storage areas.
* Creating a sleeping platform with workspace underneath, allows several activities to take within the same area.
* A bedside table needs only to be 30 cm or so across and 40 cm deep to provide enough space for a glass of water and
some reading matter. If storage space is in short supply, use small office filing cabinets instead of conventional
tables.

 |
* Blanket chests can serve as storage areas and a low table, if you add cushions, can provide occasional seating.
* Place a mattress on top of a storage base, and use a valance sheet to make it look like a part of the bed.
* If you place a mirror on top of a chest of drawers, you produce an instant dressing table.
